Just days ahead of the nationwide “No Kings” protests opposing President Trump’s immigration raids, deportations, and military parade, a Florida sheriff is going viral for all the wrong reasons.
At a press conference Thursday, Brevard County Sheriff Wayne Ivey issued an alarming threat to protesters: “If you throw a brick, a firebomb, or point a gun at one of our deputies… your family will collect your remains.”
The sheriff—an open Trump supporter—also warned demonstrators that if they block streets, resist arrest, or even spit on police, they’ll either be “in jail, in the hospital—or worse.”
His chilling language mirrors Trump’s recent post threatening protesters: “If they spit, we will hit.”
Elected officials and advocates are condemning Ivey’s rhetoric as dangerous and authoritarian.
“Florida deserves leaders who de-escalate tensions, not inflame them,” State Sen. Shevrin Jones tells theGrio.
“The right to protest is foundational to our democracy… threatening protesters with death is reckless and unconstitutional.”
With nearly 2,000 “No King” rallies expected across the country this weekend—including in Florida, where tensions are already high—the call to reject fear and stand for democracy has never been louder.

#GrioFam, what do you make of this rhetoric from law enforcement? Does this sound like public safety—or a threat to protest itself? Share your thoughts below.👇🏾

#Repost @miaminewtimes —— miaminewtimes As people prepare to take to the streets in South Florida on Saturday for the “No Kings” protests, a Homestead business threw its support behind Gov. Ron DeSantis’ approval of drivers running over protesters if they feel threatened. During a Wednesday night interview with Dave Rubin of the Rubin Report, DeSantis said drivers do not have to worry about hitting protesters in the street if they are trying to flee for their safety. Following DeSantis’ appearance, Blue Lagoon Farm Miami in Homestead posted a meme on its Instagram account with a car running over people titled “All Lives Splatter.” The post was eventually removed. People have now taken to Google to write one-star reviews referencing the “All Lives Splatter” post. ✍️ Read the story by Naomi Feinstein at miaminewtimes.com (link in bio). 📷: Reddit #miaminewtimes #miamifl #homesteadbusiness #protest #socialmediapost View all 338 comments

@nbc6 A construction worker who was arrested by federal agents, was released a day later, and he alleges he was assaulted when he was taken into custody. Alejandro Reyes said he was taken into custody by ICE despite telling them on several occasions that he’s a legal resident. Reyes told Telemundo Nueva Inglaterra the agents took him to Pine Grove Cemetery — not a detention center — and beat him several times in a dark area.
