It’s the first day of New Student Orientation at Villanova University. But students aren’t celebrating or making new friends—they’re sheltering in place after there were reports of an active shooter on campus. Police swarmed the campus and later discovered “it was a cruel hoax. There was no active shooter, no injuries and no evidence of firearms present on campus.”
We’ve spent years practicing what to do in an active shooter situation. Even when the alarms are false, there’s nothing fake about the fear and panic we feel. We refuse to let the threat of gun violence traumatize us and steal our futures. We demand action.
