The Republican-led Tennessee General Assembly redrew congressional districts.

This new map will eliminate the only Democratic-held seat in the state, District 9, in Shelby County.

This decision will make all nine of Tennessee’s congressional districts majority white and will dilute the vote of Black Memphians.

Even though the new districts were passed and signed into law by Tennessee Gov. Bill Lee on Thursday, challenges to the redistricting will continue. The NAACP and others have already filed lawsuits to challenge the new maps.

Since Tuesday, many activists across the state and Memphians have been in Nashville, making their voices heard.
